Nugget is the all breeds Australian record priced yearling bull. He sold for $54,000 to top the 2018 Millah Murrah sale as the highest priced Angus bull in Australia for the year.
Nugget was purchased by Alexander Downs Group, owned by the Gill family of Merriwa. They process more than 15,000 beef bodies annually through their vertically integrated meat business, with outlets across the Hunter and Sydney region.
Robert Gill said of Nugget, "The bull has beautiful skin and soft finish, with an exceptional muscle pattern for a bull of his age. We see the cattle uncovered. No matter what the figures say, we know how important these visually assessible traits are to eating quality and yield. This is where we make profit. What really sets Nugget apart is the tremendous fill behind the shoulder he displays. We can get an extra 15kg of prime product from animals like this compared to run of the mill cattle."
Nugget is a product of the "no brainer" maternally focussed mating of Hallmark on Theo. Hallmark is an Emperor son from the prolific Millah Murrah Brenda family. His daughters received exceptional demand at the 2017 Millah Murrah female sale where 28 of them sold to average $14,500.
Nugget's genomically enhanced data set is sublime, ironing out all the deficiencies of his father. Nugget has a much earlier maturing phenotype than Hallmark, with the outstanding foot structure, his father is favoured for.
Without doubt, Nugget is the Hallmark son the industry has been waiting for.

Dam of Nugget, Honey H159. Her front teat looks "fatter" than is the case, because the offside teat is aligned almost behind it.
