Cabaña Puente AngusMillah Murrah Angus has joined forces with Cabaña Buen Retiro (owned by Sr Martín Vergara) in Argentina to create a sister stud named Cabaña Puente Angus. Puente is the Spanish word for bridge. Frozen embryos were exported to Argentina in October 2003. 20 calves resulted from these embryos. Although they are located in Argentina the cattle of Puente Angus are registered with the Australian Angus Society Herd Book and performance recorded with Australian Group Breedplan. The best animals from Puente Angus are being used in the Buen Retiro herd and ultimately sufficient genetic linkage should result to enable a joint group breedplan run of the Australian and Argentina breedplan herds. Development of the stud is slow, however a significant milestone was achieved with sale of the first three bulls from the programme in 2007. Cabaña Puente Angus is a showcase of Australian genetics and is well positioned as a local “supply depot” for Australian Angus seedstock.
