Appendix A: Trait Correlations

(Source Angus Society Website: www.angusaustralia.com.au)

Angus GROUP BREEDPLAN uses a multi-trait analysis procedure that takes into account known genetic and non-genetic relationships (correlations) between the various birth, growth, carcase and fertility traits. These correlations have been calculated from the Angus database by researchers at the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit, University of New England, Armidale. In some cases additional research data has been used to estimate the correlations. These relationships are regularly re-estimated as additional performance data and research results are obtained.

The following graphs illustrate some of the key genetic correlations currently built into the Angus GROUP BREEDPLAN analysis. Additional non-genetic (environmental) correlations are also used to assist in the calculation of Estimated Breeding Values for each trait.
